Breaking Barriers, Building Futures
Breaking Barriers, Building Futures
I have been a full-time Gilpin resident since March 2022, when my family moved from North Dakota and joined the school community. I have a 7th grade and 5th grade student at Gilpin this year.
I have worked for the University of Colorado Boulder since 2021 as a software engineer, and before that at North Dakota State University since 2006 also doing software development.
I was born and raised in Minnesota, near Minneapolis, where I attended public schools (Lincoln Elementary, Meadow Lake Elementary, Technology Learning Campus / Technology and Language Campus, and Robbinsdale-Cooper Senior High School). I attended North Dakota State University for a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (BSME). After graduation, I joined the IT department there and continued on to earn a master's degree in software engineering (MSE).
If I'm not at home working, you'll usually find me at the school at a volleyball match, basketball game, soccer game, track meet, band concert, choir concert, theater performance, or at one of our peer schools watching the competitions. If there's snow on the ground, there's a good chance I'm on the ski hill at my kids' ski practice or at a ski race either as a spectator or race volunteer. If it's over 50ºF and the snow is gone there's a decent chance I'm at the Community Center's ball fields helping coach the kids or scoring a baseball/softball game.

As best as I can remember, and from what I've been told, I've always had a curiosity for the world and an interest in learning. My dad wrote this on my now-7th grader's first day of Kindergarten (in 2018):
Jill had quite the expectations that first day of her Big-K. Jill said school was okay, but she was kinda disappointed that she didn't get to learn to read - you know, learn everything there is to know about reading on the first day of the Big-K
That girl is has loved to study & learn all her life. She heard [her mom] many, many, years ago say that she [mom] wanted to find a job where she could get paid to go to school - well Jill, you've got a lot of those "study-jeans (sic)" from your Mom, you've been living that dream for 17-years. To this day Jill still goes to school - yep, she gets paid for it too
As a Gilpin parent and a lifelong learner, I believe our students should gain the skills they need for a future shaped by new technologies like AI and I'm committed to finding solutions to make that happen. Navigating this complex and uncertain future requires a future-focused mindset and a deep-seated commitment to growth.
Having spent my career as a software engineer, I've learned that the best solutions come from a balance of strategic thinking and collaborative problem-solving. It's this same data-driven mindset and commitment to working together that I want to bring to our school district.
I am running for the Gilpin School Board to lend my time, dedication, skills, and voice to this important work, so we can support our incredible teachers and build a school community that truly serves every student.
